The most recent development of the Flanker series, the Su-35 is an universal upgrade of the original Su-27 that was born in the years prior to the collapse of the Soviet Union. It boasts an array of improvements, including improved radar, enhanced stealth capabilities and thrust vectoring engines, the latter of which were derived from the Su-37 Terminator prototype. Modern variants were conceived as stopgap solutions until the arrival of the PAK FA, earning it the moniker of "the Last Flanker".
In the Horizon universe, the Su-35 saw a much greater rate of production, with dozens of units being operated by the Russian Air Force, many of which were destroyed in combat during the 2015 civil war in Russia. A customized Flanker was used by Andrei Markov, who adorned it with his signature sharksmouth design. It was also produced by Wernher and Noah Enterprises in the post-Ulysses 1986VG1 world.
The original model was produced as the "Super Flanker" in the Strangereal world. One such jet was used by the mercenary Phoenix during the Usean Rebellion, and others were used by Michael Heimeroth and the Ofnir Squadron during their activities as aggressor pilots in Yuktobania.
- A recurring special color of the Su-35 through the Ace Combat series is the Russian tricolor livery used by the Su-27PD, a modified Flanker owned by the Gromov Flight Research Institute, which appears in Ace Combat 2 and Shattered Skies. The same color is used by Lorenz Riedel's Su-33 in Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation.
- During the production of Ace Combat 2, Namco intended the Su-35 to be able to perform Pugachev's Cobras, the manuever the Flanker family is most famous for. However, the approaching released deadline forced them to relegate the ability to the ADF-01 ZOE. Copies in which the maneuver can be performed in a rudimentary manner by the player are owned by Namco employees.
- In the reveal trailer of Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, the aircraft was called "Su-35BM".
